Extremely easy to make, yet appetizing and unique, these matcha chocolate (matchocolate?!) bars will make a perfect gift for all green tea lovers. You can experiment with the toppings and choose them according to your loved one’s preferences. How about beginning with one of our favourites, salted pistachio nuts? They work really well with matcha’s intense flavour and sweetness of white chocolate.

 

Handmade matcha chocolate bars

Ingredients:

  • 200 g white chocolate*
  • 1-2,5 tsp Moya Matcha daily (feel free to use a little more if you like strong matcha flavour)
  • 50-100 g salted pistachio nuts, weighed shelled
  • or any other topping you fancy

* Choose the best available – quality and taste of the chocolate are crucial for the success of this recipe. Make sure it contains natural cocoa fat, not substitutes.

Preparation:

Prepare a mold or a dish, where your chocolate will solidify – something slightly bigger that a standard chocolate bar. If you don’t have a special chcolate mold, you can use a loaf pan or a plastic box. Line it with parchment paper.

Melt the chocolate in a water bath. Once it’s melted, take it off the pot and put away to cool down for one minute. Then, stirring constantly with an egg whisk, sift the tea into the chocolate. Start with a small amount of matcha (i.e. 1 tsp), try it and add more until the flavour is strong enough for you.

When the mixture is evenly green, pour the chocolate into the prepared dish. Top it with chopped pistachios (adjusting the amount to your preference, as well). Gently fold them into the chocolate. Other ideas for toppings include dried cranberries, pumpkin seeds and bee pollen, goji berries with coconut chips or roasted almond flakes and sea salt. There are no limits, and you can leave it plain just as well).

Leave the chocolate barin room temperature to solidify for 4-5 hours minimum. Don’t put it in the fridge, the temperature difference might be too big, which can create a dusty-looking surface or other problems. When it’s solid, cut it into pieces and enjoy! Or wrap it beautifully and surprise a loved one with a gift.
