Green tea’s pro-health properties have already astounded the Asian population thousands of years ago. The delicate brew’s popularity has been spread by Japanese monks, who discovered its salutary effect on both body and mind. Nowadays, we know what’s the source of the green tea leaves’ properties. We managed to establish that green tea is a natural treasury for vitamins A, C, calcium, iron, magnesium and a whole range of other valuable minerals and nutrients. Alongside its chemical composition, we have discovered a hitherto unknown green tea’s property – its surprisingly effective slimming effect.

How does green tea cut the weight?

Green tea propels the weight loss effect in two ways.

Firstly, it significantly boosts metabolism. The substances responsible for such process are catechins, contained within the green tea leaves. Catechins are chemical compounds from the group of polyphenols, being one of the strongest antioxidants. Due to their antioxidant properties, catechins aid the activity of digestive enzymes, accelerating organism’s metabolic processes. They also inhibit the absorption of fats and glucose from foods, significantly supporting weight loss.

The latter way, in which green tea promotes weight loss, is the improvement of the process of the fat burning. Such an effect is being obtained thanks to a high content of theine (caffeine found within tea leaves) and tannins in green tea. Tannins are substances found within most vegetable organisms, exhibiting antiviral and antioxidant properties. Theine and tannins show the slimming effect due to their properties aiding thermogenesis. Thermogenesis is a set of physiological and metabolic processes, during which the organism burns the calories in order to generate heat.

Is it effective to use green tea as a tool to the weight loss journey?

Japanese researchers have observed that daily consumption of 3 regular cups of green tea for 3 months results in the loss of 1,5kg, without introducing any changes to diet or physical activity. Due to their slimming properties, leaf green tea and powdered matcha tea have become one of the key components of the sirtfood diet (the famous Adele’s diet).

And is regular green tea consumption actually safe?

Green tea is one of the safest and healthiest alternatives for the weightloss supplements. It’s entirely natural, plant-based and gluten-free. However, in order to make sure about its safety during its regular consumption, one should remember that it shouldn’t be consumed on an empty stomach or by children and pregnant women.
