Matcha with orange juice

Green tea should be a regular part of anyone's health-conscious diet. Even so, alongside your daily cup – which we hope you're already enjoying! – don't forget about matcha on special occasions too. It works wonderfully as an ingredient in elegant drinks. One of our favourite combinations is matcha with orange juice — refreshing, yet full of depth. Today we're sharing a simple summer drink served in a truly striking way.

matcha with orange juice
Ingredients (2 servings):

Method:
  • Squeeze the juice from the two oranges. Strain the juice through a sieve if you'd like to remove the pulp.
  • Prepare the matcha as usual, using a bamboo chasen whisk or an electric milk frother. Whisk 1 teaspoon of matcha with around 40ml of warm (not boiling!) water until smooth and frothy. Then top up with the remaining water.
  • Pour the orange juice into a glass, then top with the matcha.
  • You can garnish the glass with a slice of orange. Prepared this way, the drink looks truly striking and tastes just as good as it looks.
Tip
  • If you'd like your matcha and orange juice to have separate layers, use a spoon. Hold it inside the glass, horizontally and upside down, touching the side of the glass but not the juice below. Very slowly pour the matcha over the back of the spoon, raising it up the side of the glass as the level of the drink rises.
