In summer, simplicity is key. That’s why we’ve got a recipe for homemade matcha bubble tea – a bubbly classic with a green twist.

It’s a blend of our matcha, milk, and soft tapioca pearls that you can customize however you like—add your favorite milk, flavored pearls, or ice cubes for an extra chill. Matcha brings not only vibrant color, but also a boost of energy and a subtle earthy note that perfectly balances the sweetness of maple syrup.

Matcha Bubble Tea
Ingredients:
  • 1-2 teaspoons Moya Matcha Traditional
  • 60 ml (about 1/4 cup) hot water (approx. 70-80°C / 158-176°F)
  • 150-200 ml (about 2/3 to 3/4 cup) milk (dairy or plant-based, e.g., oat, almond)
  • 2-3 tablespoons cooked tapioca pearls (black or clear) or ready-made bubble tea pearls in your favorite flavor
  • Maple syrup to taste (approx. 1-2 tablespoons)
  • Ice cubes

Preparation
  • Cook the tapioca: Follow the instructions on the tapioca pearl packaging. Typically, you boil them in plenty of water until they become soft and translucent, then rinse them with cold water. You can soak them in maple syrup to add sweetness. You can also find ready-made bubble tea pearls on store shelves.
  • Prepare the matcha: Sift the matcha into a bowl. Add the hot water and whisk with a bamboo whisk (chasen) or a milk frother until a smooth, frothy paste forms.
  • Assemble the drink: Pour the cooked tapioca pearls into a tall glass. Add ice cubes. Pour in the milk, then gently add the prepared matcha.
