Matchawan Yutori is the newest bowl in our collection for preparing matcha. It is one of the elements of the traditional Japanese tea ceremony. Its distinctive design—low walls and a wide base—lets you whisk matcha comfortably in water and achieve a perfectly creamy foam.
The Yutori bowl is crafted by Pokutska Ceramics, a studio in Ukraine that specializes in hand-made vessels. As a result, each bowl is unique and one of a kind. The Japanese term “yutori” refers to a way of living with a slow-life mindset—taking delight in the world and nature around us, and finding balance and space for oneself.
The traditional way to prepare matcha comes from the Japanese Tea Ceremony. It involves using a matcha bowl, a bamboo whisk- chasen and a bamboo spoon- chashaku.
Place 2 chashaku spoons of matcha (1,5g) in a matcha bowl and pour 100ml of hot water (80 °C). Chasen in hand, vigorously whisk your matcha from the wrist in m-shaped, not circular, motion. In about 20 seconds your bowl should be filled with a perfect jade-green foam. You can add more water now if you like your matcha to be less strong.
