Matchawan Tane

TANE is a matcha bowl inspired by the beginning of life and the quiet strength of nature. Its name comes from the Japanese tane (種), meaning “seed” – a symbol of potential, of origins, and of everything that has yet to unfold. In Japanese culture, a seed is a metaphor for life held in the silence of the earth, waiting for the right moment to grow.

The brown-green glaze with a subtly lustrous finish evokes fertile soil and young growth, its surface catching light like the still face of a pond. Lighter tones near the rim give the bowl a sense of weightlessness — as if light were slowly filtering through layers of earth and life. In Japanese aesthetics, the beginning holds as much meaning as the fullness — it is a moment of silence in which everything is just coming into being. TANE embodies this idea through its simple, organic form and natural transitions of color. Every matcha prepared in it becomes a symbol of a day’s beginning, new energy, and a mindfulness that grows like a seed — slowly, but with quiet certainty.

Matcha preparation in a bowl

The traditional way to prepare matcha comes from the Japanese Tea Ceremony. It involves using a matcha bowl, a bamboo whisk- chasen and a bamboo spoon- chashaku.

Place 2 chashaku spoons of matcha (1,5g) in a matcha bowl and pour 100ml of hot water (80 °C). Chasen in hand, vigorously whisk your matcha from the wrist in m-shaped, not circular, motion. In about 20 seconds your bowl should be filled with a perfect jade-green foam. You can add more water now if you like your matcha to be less strong.
