Matchawan Hazuki

HAZUKI is a matcha bowl inspired by the stillness of late summer and the quiet shift into autumn. The name draws from the Japanese Hazuki (葉月) – the month of leaves, when nature gently changes its rhythm.

In Japanese culture, leaves symbolize life in constant renewal – cycling through the seasons in an endless rhythm. Their transformation becomes an image of rebirth, born from change and the letting go of what has passed. The creamy, green, and earthy brown glaze evokes the colors of soil, forest, and quiet natural balance.

Leaf motifs are woven into the bowl’s surface – subtle details revealed only on closer inspection, like the quiet textures of nature. The autumn transformation becomes an invitation to slow down, to contemplate, to observe the world with intention. Japanese aesthetics finds beauty in simplicity, imperfection, and the rhythm of changing seasons. HAZUKI turns every matcha moment into a still, mindful pause — a return to natural harmony.

Matcha preparation in a bowl

The traditional way to prepare matcha comes from the Japanese Tea Ceremony. It involves using a matcha bowl, a bamboo whisk- chasen and a bamboo spoon- chashaku.

Place 2 chashaku spoons of matcha (1,5g) in a matcha bowl and pour 100ml of hot water (80 °C). Chasen in hand, vigorously whisk your matcha from the wrist in m-shaped, not circular, motion. In about 20 seconds your bowl should be filled with a perfect jade-green foam. You can add more water now if you like your matcha to be less strong.
