Matchawan Okashi is a classic matcha teapot for preparing and drinking matcha, inspired by the aesthetics of Japanese simplicity. Its light, slightly olive color is covered with fine, irregular dotting that gives it a raw, artisanal feel.
Made by hand in the village of Mino on the island of Honsiu, Japan. The turning of the mold combined with the hand-finishing makes each teapot slightly different – and thus unique.
Okashi has a slightly tapered shape and a wide bottom, making it ideal for dispensing matcha with a bamboo broom (chasen). Its well-balanced proportions make the teapot comfortable in the hand and great for both beginners and more advanced matcha enthusiasts.
The traditional way to prepare matcha comes from the Japanese Tea Ceremony. It involves using a matcha bowl, a bamboo whisk- chasen and a bamboo spoon- chashaku.
Place 2 chashaku spoons of matcha (1,5g) in a matcha bowl and pour 100ml of hot water (80 °C). Chasen in hand, vigorously whisk your matcha from the wrist in m-shaped, not circular, motion. In about 20 seconds your bowl should be filled with a perfect jade-green foam. You can add more water now if you like your matcha to be less strong.
