Organic Moya Genmaicha Tea

Genmaicha is a high-quality sencha green tea blended with roasted rice kernels ("genmai"). The rice is specially soaked and steamed before being dried and roasted. The combination of sencha leaves and rice gives genmaicha its signature refreshing, subtly nutty flavor, a strong aroma, and a russet-green color. For centuries in Japan, genmaicha was considered a drink for the poorest people, who couldn't afford to drink sencha on its own — the added rice bulked up the tea and gave it extra flavor. Over time, genmaicha grew popular across all social classes in Japan and later around the world, where it earned the nickname "popcorn tea" (the roasted rice grains resemble popped corn from a distance). In Japan, genmaicha is often drunk by monks during long periods of fasting. Because of its relatively low sencha content (50%), it's a tea with fairly low caffeine levels, while being prized for its high mineral content (magnesium, calcium, and potassium). Thanks to its digestive benefits, it's traditionally served with meals.

Organic Moya Sencha No. 21 Tea

A lightly sweet and refreshing green tea with an earthy note. Sencha is the most popular tea in Japan. It comes from the same green tea bushes as matcha, except sencha plants aren't shaded during cultivation. The leaves are dried right after picking, which halts the oxidation process. Once dried, the leaves curl up, forming their characteristic "needle-like" shape. Moya Sencha No. 21 comes from organic farms on the island of Kyushu, from a second harvest with a very well-balanced flavor.

Sencha green tea is a rich source of antioxidants and vitamins. It has a positive effect on concentration, and the polyphenols it contains have numerous therapeutic properties — supporting digestion, helping burn excess calories, and improving circulatory health.

Net weight: 60 g
Ingredients: 100% organic sencha green tea

Amount of tea: 2–3 g per 200 ml

Organic Moya Hojicha Tea

Hojicha is an exception among Japanese teas, and its flavor bears no resemblance to that of other green teas. Hojicha is made from leaves harvested in autumn and roasted at high temperature, which turns the leaves a deep brown color. This roasting process is also what gives hojicha its distinctive smoky aroma and slightly sweet flavor with notes of caramel and nuts. During roasting, hojicha also loses much of its caffeine content, which is why it can be drunk before bed and is safe for children and pregnant women. The roasting process for green tea was developed in Kyoto in the 1920s, and hojicha has been steadily growing in popularity ever since, now reaching far beyond Japan's borders.

Drinking hojicha helps regulate cholesterol and blood sugar levels and strengthens the immune system. Like genmaicha, hojicha is often served with meals in Japan. It can be steeped several times, though 3 infusions are generally optimal. Moya Hojicha comes from small, family-run organic farms on the southern island of Kyushu. It's processed in Uji, in Kyoto Prefecture, where it is also certified and subjected to rigorous contaminant testing.
